Re: The Post-Festival Landscape

My running predicitons are close to Sabin's except: Best Picture - BlackKkKlansman instead of Black Panther with Boy Erased and Beautiful Boy added to his 8 Director - Spike Lee (BlacKkKlansman) instead of Steve McQueen, though McQueen would be my sixth pick Actor - Viggo Mortensen (Green Book) inst...

Re: Cinematography 1939-1966

I went over the nominations for Cinematography for the years in question, and found that that there are very few films I either haven't seen or don't remember much about. Most of the nominees within this period had easy to recall vivid imagery. For completists, most of the nominees can be found if y...

Mister Tee wrote:The backlash against La La Land is pretty much complete at this point -- its unforgettable best picture loss seems to have emboldened its non-fans into proclaiming it a piece of shit.

I wouldn't go that far, but I would call it a missed opportunity.

Re: 2018 Emmys

All the world may love a lover, but Broadwayites are fuming at Glenn Weiss who lectures Tony nominees every year about the length of their acceptance speeches and then takes 3 minutes on his own 14th Emmy win to propose to his girlfriend. https://pagesix.com/2018/09/19/broadway-bigs-less-than-thrill...

Re: The Post-Festival Landscape

I think John C. Reilly is more likely to be nominated for Stan & Ollie than The Sisters Brothers . Conundrums: Odd that Margot Robbie now seems to have a better chance at being nominated as Elizabeth I in support in Mary Queen of Scots than Saoirse Ronan has as the title character in lead unless...

Re: Cinematography 1939-1966

I didn't cast a vote because I don't have a preferance one way or the other. It's a close one at 7-5 in favor of doing both together, so that's what we'll do but we may want to allow two weeks between polls to allow everyone who wants to catch up on the nominees to have enough time to do so.

Re: Best Cinematography 2017

I cast my vote for the so far unanimous choice of Blade Runner 2049.

I thought, perhaps, that some who voted for Deakins earlier might want to spread the wealth but that's apparently not the case.

Dunkirk would be my second choice.

Re: 2018 Emmys

Betty White was not nominated for an Emmy until 1951. The longest lived 1949 nominee was Patricia Morrison who died less than four months ago at the age of 103 and they didn't even include her in their in their In Memoriam segment. A classier move than dragging out Betty White for the umpteenth time...

The proposal was pretty awesome. I live for that kind of moments in awards shows.

That was the only thing and it was given by the director of THE OSCARS!!!

Re: Honorary Oscars Wish Lists and Speculation

Cooper's impending death was well known behind the scenes, though it was Stewart's blubbering presentation that generated public suspicion and confirmation.

Cantor's award was for "distinguished service to the film community" and not for his largely undistinguished films.

Re: Honorary Oscars Wish Lists and Speculation

I don't agree that Pickford's honorary Oscar was a silly choice. She was a huge boxoffice star during the silent era and a powerful figure behind the scenes as well along with Fairbanks and Chaplin. The 1975 award honored that distinguished career. Her Oscar for Coquette most certainly was a traves...

Re: Honorary Oscars Wish Lists and Speculation

I was going to mention the Robinson situation earlier. The same was true for Audrey Hepburn. AMPAS doesn't give out posthumous honorary awards under any other circumstances.

Surely you mean Leon Shamroy?

So you think he should have won for The Cardinal instead of for Cleopatra?

In lieu of Walter Lassally not being nominated for Tom Jones, yes.
