Re: The Official Review Thread of 2018

Saw Hereditary to take a break from American politics. Very well done. The sound design is insanely good, as is Toni Collette.

Re: 2018 Tony Awards

Yeah, when Ari'el Statchel won, I thought the show might do a clean sweep - I might have ranked him last. It really is a beautiful score and I'm glad it did well (and it probably needed to, box office wise), but gotta feel bad for Pask - only guy from the show to go home empty handed.

Re: Everything Is Great and Amazing

Yeah, this was a uniquely bad weekend on this side of the border. We got our Tinpot Trump in the Ontario Election (analogy: population wise, Ontario is to Canada what California + New York + Texas + Florida + Pennsylvania are to the USA). The G7 meeting seemed like it was headed south before it star...

Re: Isle of Dogs

1. Desplat's score was amazing. 2. I enjoyed it, but a lot less than Moonrise Kingdom or Grand Budapest. 3. The racism controversy is interesting (not sure I agree with it, but worth engaging with anyway) but I'd argue Darjeeling is a lot more offensive on that ground - I remember leaving the theatr...

Re: Everything Is Great and Amazing

Few thoughts a) Yeah, most of the people I know are thinking very seriously about Trump launching a war of aggression. His obsession with using nuclear weapons, his warmongering cabinet, his rampant instability... all terrifying. b) I will say that China's "grudges" are very much linked to...

Re: The Americans: Final Season

I was riveted by the first four seasons, but I couldn't watch it after the 2016 elections. It hit too close to home. Maybe I should binge watch the last two seasons and then delve into the final season. Right there with you. I took a long time to start the fifth season and still haven't finished it.

Re: Categories One-by-One: Original Song

Had I known "This is Me" wouldn't win, I probably wouldn't have listened to it. What an earworm of a song.

Re: The 19th Annual Who'll Be Back?

Some random thoughts inspired by the below If Daniel Day Lewis wants to return, he'll likely get a nomination. I don't know if he'll return, though. I actually can imagine him retiring and then staying retired (a la Gene Hackman). But if he's inspired to return, I've gotta imagine whatever inspires ...

Re: Oscars' Hat Tricks party game

Tee's assertion fits me pretty much perfectly - I find two that are either very strong or very weak, only to be foiled by one of the neighbours. Adapted Screenplay probably has to be the early 90's trio: Silence of the Lambs, Howards' End and Schindler's List are pretty unimpeachable choices. Or may...

In terms of straight dollars or multiplier? Because Return of the King outgrossed Lost in Translation by 330 million, but a lower factor.

Not gonna lie, couldn't even finish the Tur interview without wanting to reach through my monitor and <insert random violent act here>. She should be canonized for that.
