Re: New Developments III

Bill Weld officially announces he is challenging Trump for GOP nomination in 2020

https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/15/politics ... index.html

That's a key.

We'll see how many Bill Weld Republicans there actually are out there.

Re: Best Picture & Director 2018

Not great films, although I enjoyed that for once it seemed as though we had a group of films that were at the very least widely seen and most if not all touched something in the zeitgeist. No Philomenas. The Favourite is the only nominee of the bunch that I love, so Best Picture is an easy choice. ...

Re: Best Actor 2018

Not a great list at all. All of these performances feel hamstrung by their respective film's writing or directing. The only person I can't defend is Bradley Cooper because if it's not his fault, whose fault is it? And yet I walk away finding his work the most authentic, personal, and admirable even ...

Big Magilla wrote I wish we were at the point where a younger, more progressive Democrat could sail to victory, but like I keep saying, I don't think we're there yet. Biden, with all his foibles, still seems like the only one who can beat Trump for certain in 2020, but the campaign has hardly begun...

Re: R.I.P. Seymour Cassel

My friend was his assistant for a year. He said he was a lovely human being. I will always remember Seymour Cassel for his performance as Jason Schwartzman's father in Rushmore, a man who accepted his son's embarrassment of his profession with humor and understanding. Rushmore is a film built on cro...

Re: Best Supporting Actress 2018

This race made me pull my hair out. The clearest frontrunner, Regina King, wasn't nominated for a SAG or a BAFTA, which pointed to a Sylvester Stallone-esque shutout for the prize, right on down to SAG largely voting "present" in the form of Emily Blunt for A Quiet Place. Holding me back f...

Re: Best Supporting Actor 2018

Pretty simple for me. Not a great lineup by any stretch and Richard E. Grant gave the kind of performance that would have stood a better chance of winning in 1988, if not 2018. We've seen this mix of tragedy and flamboyance in our GBFs before but it's a truly supporting performance and Grant finds e...

Big Magilla wrote We have a minimum age qualification for president, why shouldn't we have a maximum age qualification? I think it should be no more than 62 at time of election, which would mean retirement after a two-year term at 70. So, you're telling me that in retrospect, Hillary Clinton should...

Re: Best Original Screenplay 2018

Considering good taste of the writer's branch over the past two years in picking Manchester by the Sea and Get Out over La La Land and Three Billboards..., I thought that The Favourite would win over Green Book. Unfortunately, I think I misread the outcomes of the previous two races. Manchester by t...

Re: Campaign 2020

When I google the name "Joe Biden," the first thing that pops up is the number of politicians who say they believe Nancy Flores and her story. Why wouldn't they? Who wouldn't believe a story like this after years of "Creepy Uncle" handsiness? And it is creepy stuff. Nobody wants ...

Re: Best Adapted Screenplay 2018

I'm thrilled that Spike Lee has an Oscar and BlacKkKlansman is a good reminder of the filmmaker in top form, but honestly the script is the film's weakest aspect. I knew a month or two out from Oscar night that A Star is Born would fumble nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, o...
