Re: Reactions

I thought Najiani and Ellis Ross milked the too-early-in-the-morning joke way too much.

I would think the biggest shoo-in has to be Roma for Foreign Language Film.

Re: Final Nominations Predictions

Most best film nominees make some showing for writing/directing, or else show down-ballot strength. I note even many of the people predicting the film give very little supporting evidence: beyond Malek, just a tech nod or two. That, to me, doth not a best picture nominee make, even in a crappy year...

Re: The Nominations Announcement

Apparently the days of big stars/Oscar winners doing the announcement are long gone. As you both note, Ross isn't even a film name -- but Nanjiani isn't exactly a luminary, either. Nanjiani, as a first-time nominee from last year, could be viewed as a "rising star," which, very often, acc...

One political satire that I have been intrigued about tracking down on video, etc., is Nasty Habits. It was made a few years after Watergate and parodies it by portraying a scandal at a convent. Glenda Jackson plays a nun based on Richard Nixon.

Re: Green Book reviews

If you read Nick's biography on IMDb. you'll see his early production work gave prominent acting jobs to Clarence Williams III, Paul Winfield and Louis Gossett, Jr. He may not be "woke" but he's not intrinsically racist either. Well by that logic, Trump gave jobs to Ben Carson and Omarosa...

Re: Green Book reviews

Green Book basically plays that line straight--in multiple scenes, Mortensen is showing Ali how to be more black, by introducing him to fried chicken, by encouraging him to play "real" music in a blacks-only restaurant. . .There's absolutely no reason, other than the lower place his chara...

All these mentions of just Cuaron and Cooper for Best Director are ignoring the real possibility of a career Oscar to Lee.

Re: Web of Sex Scandals

”I've met people who had sex much later in their life and they WERE traumatized for having waited so long”. What does this mean? Maybe they were traumatized because the experience itself was traumatizing. Haven’t you met people who waited what might be considered a little too long and still have a ...

Apoolo 13 was not nominated for Sound Effects Editing, as it was called in 1995, which was won by Bravehart
