I think you may have a typo here, but I would pay big bucks to see this movie!

Re: The 19th Annual Who'll Be Back?

Tee, wonderfully insightful as always. I have little to add in terms of the actual nominees. For the bonus rounds, you covered the people I thought of immediately: Robert Pattinson, Tracy Letts, Sean Baker, and especially poor Michael Stuhlbarg. The most obvious, though, seems to be Armie Hammer. I'...

Re: Oscars' Hat Tricks party game

Looking at the Best Picture category, the streak from 1960-62 has to be one of the best selections of films the Academy has honored. Three all-time classics -- The Apartment, West Side Story, and Lawrence of Arabia -- all completely different in tone and style, and all among the greatest examples of...

Re: Trivia

The Shape of Water ended a 13-year drought of the Best Picture winner not having a Best Actress nomination, but that still isn't the longest streak. It has still be 14 years since the Best Picture winner had a Visual Effects or Make-Up nomination (two categories that The Shape of Water could have po...

Re: Trivia

At some point, we had a list going of movies that featured the most acting Oscar winners. And it's worth noting how quickly The Help has joined those ranks, with Sissy Spacek, Mary Steenburgen, and Octavia Spencer now joined by (in only two years) Emma Stone, Viola Davis, and Allison Janney. And it...

Re: Oscar Family Photo?

Glenda Jackson is in the states performing with Laurie Metcalf on Broadway. Figuring they have no performance that night, might they convince her to fly out for the show?

Re: Casey Affleck Not Attending the Oscars

Matthew McConaughy is the only Best Actor winner announced to present so far, so it looks like he could be taking Affleck's spot.

Re: Oscar Family Photo?

Oops, I see Eva Marie Saint is also on the presenter list, who is an even earlier winner.

There are also enough previous winners on the list that they could be doing something similar to the group presenting of former winners.

Oscar Family Photo?

It's been 15 years since they did an Oscar Family Photo at the Oscars...being the 90th year, do you think there's a chance we might get one this year? I see that Rita Moreno is presenting, and being one of the earliest living acting winners, might be a choice to introduce it!

Re: The Official Review Thread of 2017

I found Good Time a perfectly fine crime thriller, but didn't figure out why everyone was so over the moon for it (and I liked Heaven Knows What a lot). A lot of it could be that it contains perhaps the worst performance I saw all of last year from Bennie Safdie as the developmentally disabled broth...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Visual Effects

I finally caught up with Blade Runner this weekend, so I feel like I can talk about this category. This is probably between Blade Runner and Planet of the Apes, and I think it comes down to one question that has always bugged me and that I think people often overestimate. How much do you think Acade...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Documentary Feature

This is one of the more interesting races, mostly because the perceived front-runner was left off the nominations ballot and also because there are a lot of interesting films on the list that I can see voters going for. Icarus is the only film on this list I really don't like, but I certainly unders...
