Re: Bohemian Rhapsody

"Almost everyone admitted that “Bohemian Rhapsody” was a guilty pleasure to watch, however, as Rami Malek turned in an Oscar-worthy performance as Freddie Mercury. I cannot parse this sentence. What is the deal with it? I have read it six times and it doesn’t make any sense. It just stops abru...

Re: Bohemian Rhapsody

Just reviewing this thread and I have to say that I called out Rami Malek as a potential frontrunner back in December before anyone else here. And there was some pushback to the idea, some swearing up and down that it was Cooper’s (now in distant third) to lose.

Re: (D)Evaluating the nominees

I agree with Tee. What a highly generalized version of who Amy Adams is as an actress. I suggest you go back and take a look at her performance in American Hustle where she is sexy, dynamic, funny, and just very memorable. Bland, she is not. And in Sharp Objects, I was blown away by her multi-facete...

Greg, I’m pretty sure it’s also a record this year for having 7 out of 20 characters playing gay or bisexual.

Re: Vice reviews

It’s kind of baffling how poorly Amy Adams has done this season. It looked like everything was going to line up perfectly for her. She had Sharp Objects on television to show her range, her main competition missed a few enormous precursors, and Vice massively over-performed at the Academy. And even ...

Re: SAG Predictions

Reza’s use of “bitchy” and saying that I love to cause “good repetitious drama that allows me to shine” is intentionally homophobic coded language. Don’t think I didn’t notice that, Reza. I have been detecting this kind of thing my entire life. In an explanation of your racism you got to throw in a ...

Re: SAG Predictions

It's a given she is the best of those nominated this year - Amy Adams, despite her slew of past nods, is nowhere in the same league as King - plus King has the added factor of being an African-American in the race. She will win hands down for her great performance. The race card, which is a big gui...

This movie was so utterly forgettable, I actually forgot to post my reaction to it. Boring, with another empty performance by Viola Davis complete with another snot-cry.

Re: Unseen 2018 Oscar Nominated Films

dws, Can You Ever Gorgive Me? is definitely one of my favorite films of the year and Melissa McCarthy and Richard E. Grant are both excellent in it. I’m with Mister Tee in hoping for a surprise Grant win. I also loved the many supporting players, most notably Jane Curtain and the wonderful Dolly Wel...
