They probably made the calculation that they'd avoid vote-splitting.

I don't believe this song was on the list of eligible songs.

Re: Nominations Landscape -- Part 1: Best Picture

The Dark Knight’s omission cemented for its fans (a much larger group than Wall-E fans) the notion that the Academy had become out of touch, elitist, irrelevant. This posed a real long-term threat to viewership. The irony of that is that, for the most part, genre films have not really benefited muc...

Darkest Hour (Where do all these people come from, who turn out so reliably for dullish Brit-bait?)

Older viewers stay away from the theaters all year, waiting for this kind of film to be released.

Re: Golden Globe Reactions

Lana Wood will reveal all when Kirk Douglas finally expires. And we will be re-visiting the subject (probably in this thread). What's the point of waiting till he dies? Is she afraid of being sued for slander?? James Franco (who had publicly known sexual abuse allegations for three years) I know he...

Re: Golden Globe Reactions

Ok, but if it's just a rumor - and I don't even know if a very reliable one, but anyway still a rumor... I don't see what' the problem is, honestly. One can't exclude people from awards or tributes based on rumors. The anti-communist witch-hunt of the 50s was a bit like this, you know. There's some...

Re: Pre-Christmas Look at the Top Races

The reviews I've seen have had nothing but praise for Michelle Williams, and having seen the film I think she's good enough to be a surprise nomination morning. I have also read very good things about Meryl Streep and The Post in general (which I will see hopefully this weekend), but maybe this year...

Re: BAFTA Nominations & Predictions

Working against the film is another thing that might end up working for it: there's a backlash. I want to watch it again before I chime in but I'm convinced that it's not a racist film but rather it doesn't handle racism as nimbly as it could. I think some of those people might be confused and need...

Re: BAFTA Nominations & Predictions

Is Paddington 2 regretting not having a week's engagement in the U.S. in 2017? I think one film that might have that aura is Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool , which has gotten good notices from those who have seen it. Had it been released, say, at the beginning of December rather than the end it ...

Re: DGA Predix

Then why didn't they nominate 'Bridge of Spies?' Well even the National Board of Review hasn't given a nod to every Clint Eastwood movie, but we all know they love him. Similarly, not every Spielberg movie is going to get in with the DGA. I think Bridge of Spies was just out of it that year, hence ...

Re: DGA Predix

If you're looking for a flaw in my predictions, who did they nominate in 1997? Brooks, Cameron, Hanson, Van Sant...and Steven Spielberg for 'Amistad.' The real question is whether or not they like 'Get Out' or damn it with the faint praise of Best First Feature. I genuinely wonder if this is a grou...

Re: Producers' Guild Awards

I actually did consider taking The Florida Project out and putting Wonder Woman in. Project's main enthusiasm seems to be for Dafoe's performance and hasn't shown up very much in other places.
