Yes, and he aimed it right into Nancy Pelosi's lap. He may as well have shouted "Do your job!"

Re: RI.P. Tim Conway

I watched the Carol Burnett show pretty religiously as a kid/teen. Tim Conway was always a highlight. He was the one who always made the other actors break character and laugh. Super funny.

Re: Kate Smith

The conflation of sports watching with expressions of patriotism has always annoyed me. It’s bad enough that we have to endure the national anthem before every game. The addition of God Bless America after 9/11 was way over the top. The politics of whether to play the now-tainted Kate Smith version ...

Tee, I like your analysis. I won't disagree with anything you said, and want to emphatically second what you said about Democrats winning with fresh, exciting choices. I've been touting the "fresh face" path to victory with all my friends, and with the plethora of candidates for this cycle...

Re: 91st Oscars: Ceremony

Anybody besides me missing BJ's posts? In the immediate aftermath of the Oscars I'm wondering what he has to say. His contributions to this board have been a highlight for me, given that his posts are always thoughtful, well-informed, insightful, exceptionally well-written, and very educational. I u...

Three of four acting winners played gay characters. I'm pretty sure that's never happened before.

Re: 91st Oscars: Ceremony

Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody are the big winners. They didn’t need the producers to ruin the show; the Academy voters did that with their votes. The highlight was Olivia Colman, who was hysterical. Shallow was very nicely performed, as was the song from Buster Scruggs. Not much else to say.

Re: The 2019 Grammys

Did anyone else watch the awards? I assume BAFTA's would have won out, as with Bradley Cooper, so on this board. MICHELLE OBAMA. Her single utterance of "Motown..." brought the house down. Just to be clear, the audience's rousing ovation had nothing to do with Motown. Rather it was Michel...

Re: Your best picture ballot

Tee, I agree with you up to a point, most especially that there should be no quotas and that nominations should be based on quality. But is it possible that what gets perceived as "quality" is biased toward the types of films that men make, or more specifically, the way that men direct the...

Re: If Beale Street Could Talk reviews

I, too, was confused by the reference to Beale Street being in New Orleans. The reference to New Orleans wasn’t in the novel (I recently read it), so this epigraph was something Jenkins came up with, perhaps based on some other writing of Baldwin or just biographical information. I found the followi...

Re: SAG Predictions

It's a given she is the best of those nominated this year - Amy Adams, despite her slew of past nods, is nowhere in the same league as King - plus King has the added factor of being an African-American in the race. She will win hands down for her great performance. The race card, which is a big gui...
