Re: PLEASE READ: My Fantasy Oscar League

I've just confirmed. Apparently, we are not doing the Spirit Awards in our tally, which sucks. On the other hand, it just makes it easier to measure the worth of each film with one exception... The BAFTAs. What is a movie that could be up for multiple BAFTAs this year? Is there Pattington movie? Or...

Re: PLEASE READ: My Fantasy Oscar League

A Star Is Born will do too well at the Globes to be ignored, but Bohemian Rhapsody will run up a couple of nods in the comedy/musical categories. Seems Fox have submitted Bohemian Rhapsody for the drama category for the Globes, however, the Globes make the final decision which category films are pl...

Re: Best Cinematography 1961

What a mish mash of nominee's. To be honest aside from The Hustler I don't think any of them really standout. B&W I've seen The Hustler, One Two Three & The Children's Hour on the big screen as well as Blu Ray/DVD. The Children's Hour is my favourite film of 1961 and though well shot there i...

Re: Coming DVDs

I've pre-order the Bergman box set as well as John Ford's Stagecoach & Andrei Rublev. I already have the British Blu Ray release of the Tarkovksy film which is the director's preferred cut. But the Criterion is the complete version which will never turn up intact in the UK under the current cens...

Re: List of submissions to the 91st Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film

The Cakemaker (Israel) 7/10 This has been one of those films that kept alluding me. I missed it at the Jewish Film Festival last year, then missed it at the Gay & Lesbian Film Festival earlier this year and then missed it on its general release because its virtually impossible to find any websit...

Re: Peterloo reviews

It appears enough reviews have followed THR lead so to speak and Oscar wise Peterloo is doomed. For what it is worth it is showing 63% on Rotten Tomatoes and 70% on Metacritic and won't be released in the U.S. until April next year, so the thread should probably be moved (if possible) to 2019 but it...

A so-so review from THR: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/basis-sex-review-1159722 Don't know what Variety thinks (I couldn't be bothered reading the review): https://variety.com/2018/film/reviews/on-the-basis-of-sex-review-1203021559/ I hope it didn't cost too much to make because beyond th...

Re: Everything Is Great and Amazing

Well, after watching Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 11/9 I can now understand why people didn't vote at the last election. And my admiration for Obama evaporated within about 10 minutes during the film. His 'I need a glass of water' stunt in Flint was pulled right of the the Trump playbook and is a true...

Re: Boy Erased reviews

Gay Conversion Therapy also known as Pray Away the Gay is a subject matter not often tackled by filmmakers and the only films that come immediately to mind that have (But I'm a Cheerleader & The Miseducation of Cameron Post) have tended to treat the subject more light heartedly inviting the audi...

Tab Hunter Confidential (Jeffrey Schwarz, 2015) 6/10 The film details his family background, his career lows and a later resurgence after appearing in two films by John Waters which found unexpected success. Tab Hunter only ever made one film with John Waters, Polyester (1981). Lust in the Dust (19...
