Re: Which Nominees Have You Seen?

My list of films I need to see is very long (although I just got a bunch of Spirit Awards screeners that will help), but I've actually seen all 5 documentary nominees already! What did you think of them? I've only seen the Abacus & Faces, Places. If Strong Island happens to turn up locally I'll...

Re: Best Supporting Actress 1978

Great story Flipp. She would certainly be high on my 'love to meet' list.

Re: 2017 Oscar Nominations

Speaking of Washington, this kind of feels like the Robert Duvall nomination in 1998. He was just coming off of a nomination for a movie that he produced and directed himself in a performance that a lot of people considered one of his best; the next year he gets nominated again, playing a lawyer in...

Lebanon receives it's first nomination in the Foreign Language Film category with The Insult.

Re: Final Oscar Nominations Predictions

I was the only person to correctly pick the best supporting actress line-up. Based on two factors really - my dislike of The Big Sick and the fact that the Academy rarely nominated Asian actors meant a must deserved Hong Chau would miss out.

Re: Which Nominees Have You Seen?

Just the ones I haven't seen:

Lady Bird
I, Tonya
Phantom Thread
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Kong: Skull Island
The Insult
Marshall
Boss Baby
The Breadwinner
Ferdinand
Logan
Molly's Game
Roman J. Israel, Esq.

I don't bother with the documentaries or shorts.

Re: Final Oscar Nominations Predictions

Well, I'm going to take a bow for being the only person to correctly predict the best director line-up. And now I'm off to bed.....

Re: SAG Winners

I've lost hope in either Dafoe or Metcalf winning the big one, much less both. Dafoe might sneak in a win as the 'overdue veteran', as he has been in the film industry longer than Rockwell (I always have to go back and check his name). But having said that I do think that this is Rockwell's to loose.

Re: Web of Sex Scandals

I was a big Woody Allen fan but those allegations back in 1992 certainly made me take a step back. Whilst we will never now if he did or did not molest his adopted daughter, there has been so much conflicting evidence in the press and on the internet over the years that it is virtually impossible to...

Re: Web of Sex Scandals

With developments in recent weeks in relation to the on-going allegations against Woody Allen, I suspect it's very unlikely we will see any new films from Woody Allen. It seems like only yesterday (late 1992) since these first came to light. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/jan/19/woody-allen-d...

Re: The Post reviews

There was actually a good scene about 10 minutes prior to the courtroom steps moment when a young woman working for the Government approaches Meryl to tell her how much she admires her, etc. That scene worked so well but as is typical of Spielberg he doesn't know when to stop. Every time Michael Stu...

Re: Nominations Landscape -- Part 1: Best Picture

American Honey got no Oscar nominations. I'm not sure where that comparison fits in. Same style of film with The Florida Project earning just one nomination based solely on a swoop of the major critics awards. If it wasn't for Willem Dafoe (lets say Sean Baker regular Karren Karagulian played the W...
