90th Oscars: Ceremony & Pre-Show Discussion

Here you can discuss the ceremony as a whole, the winners as a whole (there will be individual posts for each category), and the pre-show if anyone watches/cares.

Re: Academy Members' Brutally Honest Ballots

She definitely came off as an idiot throughout, but I have news for her: not voting for "Get Out" doesn't make you a racist. Complaining about the use of the "race card" makes you a racist.

Re: Oscar Family Photo?

De Havilland doesn't travel, so you won't likely see her at the show.

Glenda Jackson has turned her back on film and has, to my recollection, been rather blunt about not wanting to talk about her film career, so I highly doubt she would make a trip for that.

Re: Academy Members' Brutally Honest Ballots

He just sounds like an asshole. I respect that he recognized Blade Runner 2049 twice, but ugh his rationale was very smug in places.

There are a lot of teas I've seen around here with hibiscus in it. I cannot recall what it tastes like, but I know I've had it.

Re: Categories One-by-One: Cinematography

BJ, I don't know if you've seen Black Panther, but I was incredibly impressed with the cinematography in that one. It has the same richness that has often characterized Deakins' work over the years. Matter of fact, I could see her following Deakins' path towards universal recognition at this point.

Re: Categories One-by One: Sound Mixing & Sound Editing

Because Sound Effects is only one element that they are responsible for. If you look at the categories at the Motion Picture Sound Editors, you'll see they do both sound effects/foley and dialogue/ADR. They probably feel that to honor them just for sound effects gives the wrong impression of what th...

Re: It's Trivia Time

Are we talking married couples or partners who weren't legally married? Because you can add in people like John & Faith Hubley who were nominated 6 times and won twice. There's also Alan & Marilyn Bergman, nominated together 16 times, winning thrice.

Re: Academy Members' Brutally Honest Ballots

I wasn't talking about the costume designer, I thought that was a woman. I was referring to the Daily Beast writer.
