Peter Travers gives it four stars. At this point, I think we can start the Travers Top Ten. This is the kind of movie he will give four stars to and place high up in his top ten to make, like, a statement, man! 'Bad Education', not so much. He just didn't think 'Bad Education' was quite as good as ...

'Flags' actually did better this weekend than I was expecting. Box office returns will only affect whether or not it wins the Oscar. At this point, I must admit to being wrong as to how much I underestimated Eastwood-worship, which, I'm sorry, is the only thing I can pin this film's inexplicable ra...

'The Prestige' is the most sleight-of-hand movie of the year, really a stylish con job of a film that entertained me throughout. It's a bitchy, behind-the-scenes dick measuring contest that may have as well starred Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. There's no real need to dig any deeper into the film,...

I believe I'm the only person...mmmmmmaybe on the planet who will subscribe to this belief as of yet, but I feel that 'Tideland' might be the most underrated film of the year. I will concede that at times it feels equiparts tedium as dazzle, but to dismiss this film as simply distasteful is autocri...

HOW IS ANYTHING IN THIS MOVIE NEW OR VITAL?!? I'm sorry but this is almost physically exhausting for me to read these positive reviews. I feel as though these reviewers are just grappling for positive takes on Eastwood and his film. He's not saying anything new about war. I'm sorry, it's a "war mov...

Here's the ending for 'Rocky Balboa' - 1. They punch each other out in the ring a la Superman & Doomsday (you know what I'm talking 'bout, right? Right? Bueller?) 2. They drag them both to their corners, semi-conscious. The judges discuss. One of Rocky's cornermen notices something. "Rock?...Rock?....

Owen Gleiberman: B+ Looks like solid entertainment. We think of magic as puckish, elegant, lighter than air, but in The Prestige, an aggressively devious sleight-of-hand thriller directed by Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins), the magic, even at its most clever, is powered by currents — sometimes lit...

The OGger's on my side. The first (of many) middling mainstream print takes? FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS: B- Stark in its valor, graphically alive in its pose of action, the famous photograph of five Marines and a Navy corpsman raising the U.S. flag on Mount Suribachi, one of the crests of Iwo Jima, exert...

Rex Reed is a horrible critic and probably a lousy human being as well. That opening salvo before 'Flags' is one of the most myopic things I've ever read. #### him. Sarris...I don't know. He loved 'Finding Neverland' also, so I guess there's that . Mr. Old Man Critic over there. Ed is dead ####ing ...

'Lady in the Water' is a lock for Picture, Director, Screenplay, and Supporting Actor, with stiff competition from 'Basic Instinct 2'. Let's not forget 'The Da Vinci Code' with likely nominations for Picture, Director, Actor, Actress...'Little Man' for the Wayans Bros....'Nacho Libre' for Black and...

I really don't care about the level of disconnect. I think it's most likely due to the fact that the film is being warmly received and most critics attending an advance screening don't want to be the first to poo-poo it. Look at 'Beloved', which was heralded before its release as "The Film to Beat ...
