Re: Last Seen Movie - The Latest Movie You Have Seen; ratings

My last viewings for the next couple of weeks because I'm going on holidays to 'Wake in Fright' country and will spend my time on the internet (whenever I'm lucky enough to be getting internet access) or reading. Tremors (2019) Jayro Bustamante 6/10 Sybil (2007) Joseph Sargent 4/10 My Masterpiece (2...

Re: Best Cinematography 1953

Only From Here to Eternity, Roman Holiday & Shane are appropriate nominees, but to be fair I've only ever seen Beneath the 12 Mile Reef on a faded VHS years ago and it no doubt did not do the film justice to what was probably its best feature. I voted for From Here to Eternity & Shane, both ...

Re: The VCR / DVR / Streaming Alert Thread

Thanks for that.

If only I could have seen into the future I would have purchased a couple of video tapes of it when it was released in Australia in 1980s for a nice big profit on eBay now.

Re: The VCR / DVR / Streaming Alert Thread

Song of the South hasn't been available for years -- I know from a long period of trying to rent/buy a copy. I finally was able to see it in pieces on YouTube sometime in the past 2-3 years; people periodically post it there, and it stays up till Disney catches it and has it removed. Mister Tee, Wa...

Re: The VCR / DVR / Streaming Alert Thread

Don't viewers today have the brains to do that without being explained? Every old film needs to be evaluated the same way. You automatically understand that what is depicted on screen, even something wrong, was either acceptable back then or was shown because of certain reasons which history has ma...

Re: The VCR / DVR / Streaming Alert Thread

Song of the South should be released with an explanatory introduction that puts the film's characters in their proper perspective. In additon to winning an Oscar for best song, it also earned James Baskett an honorary Oscar "for his able and heart-warming characterization of Uncle Remus, frien...

Re: New Rules for the 92nd Oscars

Thanks Uri & Magilla. Thank goodness for that. I read everything in a rush as I had to do housekeeping because we have having visitors for dinner on Friday night. Whilst I am happy to live in squalor and cat hair (and worse around the house) my partner likes to present a more 'pleasant' a...

Re: The VCR / DVR / Streaming Alert Thread

For those who have never seen Song of the South or wish to see it again its looking very unlikely. This basically amounts to self imposed censorship and trying to white wash and erase the past. The removal a scene from the original animated Dumbo is also disturbing. https://www.theguardian.com/media...

Re: New Rules for the 92nd Oscars

Name change fine. But increasing the field to 10 is ridiculous.

Might be a good year to seriously consider stop being a 'Oscar completist'. I'm getting sick of most contemporary cinema anyway as well.

Re: Best Cinematography 1954

These are generally respectable line-ups with Rogue Cop being the big head scratcher as Magilla has already pointed out. I voted for Sabrina & Seven Brides for Seven Brothers but would like to give an endorsement to The Silver Chalice, which tough a rather pedestrian and film is stunningly produ...
