Re: Categories One-by-One: Best Picture

I remember reading that on one of the flights back to the US from Frances Spike Lee was looking pretty despondent and Sally Field who was a member of the jury went up to him and rubbed his shoulder and said 'I tried, I really tried'. She does have a very certain way with words, very certain, our Sa...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Best Picture

BlackkKlansman is the movie I've been waiting all season to spring a surprise, and now the only time left for it to do that is tomorrow night. The one surprise it did pull was a negative one, falling short at WGA. Because I rate it likely to win adapted screenplay, it will remain in the hunt right ...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Supporting Actor

I meant to leave a comment on this post earlier but forgot. Mahershala Ali is pretty much deemed the front runner for this category and he is better than the material he has to work with (I think that is the highest compliment one can actually pay an actor), but I wouldn't consider voting for him or...

Re: Film Independant Spirit Awards

Don't think these awards presentations have ever screened in my neck of the woods. Does sound like it would have been a bit of a hoot to watch though.

Re: R.I.P. Stanley Donen

Was Stanley Donen the last living director from Hollywood's 'Golden Age'? I can't think of anyone else. As for directing in general the only director still living that directed a cinema feature film during the 1950's is Anges Varda. Richard Lester & Norman Jewison directed TV, Jean-Luc Godard, C...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Actress

Well at least this category has two performances worth voting for (Colman & McCarthy), which is more than I can say about the best actor lineup. As Closes's film is so pedestrian and her performance nowhere near worthy of a nomination it seemed iffy until the televised award shows started dispel...

Here's another 'brutally honest' ballot that is an amusing read:

Swiss director whose 1973 film L'Invitation was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. He also launched Isabelle Huppert's career with The Lacemaker (1977). Funnily enough I watched one of his films, The Wonderful Crook (1974) with Gerard Depardieu about 2 weeks ago after spending years of trying...

Re: June Lockhart played Lassie?

For those who don't know, Lassie was a dog. She played her owner, Ruth Martin, not the dog and not in Lost in Space . Her character's name in Lost in Space was Maureen Robinson. Who proofs this stuff? Nobody I'd say. Just like newspaper and magazines. The number of errors I see in the news media is...

Re: Details of the February 24th Presentation

Fortunately a cable tv channel bought the rights to broadcast in Portugal. Thats good to hear. Given the Oscars are the most sought after award with fans worldwide its not fair people cannot watch the show who wish to. I'm not planning on watching the Oscars this year. I have to take my mother to a...

Based on the first commercial release date anywhere in the world. Subject to change as I still have not seen Never Look Away, The House Jack Jack Built, Sunset, Blindspotting, Destroyer, Vox Lux, Stan & Ollie and about two dozen French films that I should see by the beginning of April. It didn't...

Re: Categories One-by-One: Adapted Screenplay

A great read (as usual) Mister Tee. Its hard to imagine BlacKkKlansman not taking this award but with ASiB underperforming awards wise and the other films underperforming with the public and in relation to their respective nominations Lee's film does feel pretty locked in for the win. Having said th...
