I usually hate time travel - find it cheap and silly.
But this movie generally avoided the easy tropes and cliches you find in Hollywood action and any kind of movie. There were a few rough spots. But, it came through being fresh and intelligent enough (not silly) and fun in that it was loosely laced with black comedy. I thought Tom Cruise was less than his usual self (too broad in the beginning and then with not enough depth as the character grew).
Still, this was better than the usual Hollywood popular film - they just didn't market it right to be a hit. (And having seen both Birdman and this movie, I would say the editing was most impressive here as the constant repeating of and changes in the day were not tedious and could be followed.)
