True, but changes in the world in general from 1932 to 1972 were more pronounced than they have been in the last forty years.

Here is something interesting I have thought about. The change in movies during the last 40 years has been trivial compared to the change in movies during the 40 years before the last 40. That is, the difference between the typical 1932 movie and the typical 1972 movie is much much greater then the difference between the the typical 1972 movie and the typical 2012 movie.
