Some small surprises - Milk of Sorrow over the Dutch and Bulgarian entries. Otherwise, these are the most remarkably dull group of nominees imagined.

Nice pantsuit, Anne!!!

But what is there to say when "The Secret of the Kells" is this year's big surprise? (Although "A Serious Man" might qualify as well.)

Later on, I'm going to do something very bold. I'm going to defend Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Not their nominations necessarily, I don't think they deserved their noms. But neither do their performances deserve the all the derision they're getting.

So much for the 5th Slot/Lone Director experiment. Looks like it would have been another five-for-five year.

Very happy for Il Divo and Italian philosopher-turned-screenwriter Alessandro Camon.

But apart from national pride, some of the worst nominees ever (I mean, The Blind Side one of the ten best pictures of the year? Better than Il Divo or The White Ribbon? Let's go back to the five nominees SOON!).

My insightful comment for the day:

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..................

I think I'll give the rest of this awards season a miss and come back next December...

I'm happy for In The Loop.

Also, no Avatar in best song. Good stuff.

- Maggie Gyllenhaal rode Jeff Bridges' coattails.
- (500) Days of Summer shut out.
- The Blind Side for Best Picture. Eww!

Well, it looks like the Top 10 change worked fro everyone...The Blindside and Up get in there, but An Education and A Serious Man sneak in too. Is this what we are looking, a couple of big name films and a couple of small indies?
