The ticket price for the summer open air cinemas is exactly the same with the ticket price of the multiplexes showing the latest Hollywood films (around 9 Euros).
During summertime about the 75% of the cinemas are open-air. This number is higher in the islands and the smaller cities, where there are fewer multiplexes and more open-air cinemas.

Do they charge for movies under the stars or whatever they call films shown in the open? They do that here in the warm weather in major cities but they are free of charge.

In the U.S. prior to the advent of the VCR there were lost of theatres that showed old movies on a regular basis but they were rarely in the top ten at the box office.

While we still have theatres that specialize in showing old films, most of them do not operate at a profit and hardly put a dent in the box office.

I just saw the greek box office results of the past 2 months and i think it's quite unusual.
During summertime in Greece most of the winter cinemas are closed except the Multiplexes. However the summer outdoors cinemas open, where you can watch films under the blue sky. This kind of cinemas usually show films that were succesful during winter, re-releases of old movies and new releases. In the months of July and August about 8 new films premiere in the greek cinemas every week as well as 2-3 re-releases. As a result the summer box office top10 is usually quite odd.
Does this happen in other country as well?
